I don’t know how comfortable we should be with this story narrated by a “privileged white roommate,” who aspires to be a writer but doesn’t seem to have anything at all to write about, until he hits the jackpot (by accident) with this story. It reads like appropriation of somebody else’s tragic circumstances and it’s patronizing as hell. I really felt very annoyed by the book, the movie, the whole thing.
